Bamboo Toothbrushes
 
Finding a good bamboo toothbrush wasn’t easy. As a dental hygienist the most important thing for me about a toothbrush is soft bristles and a small head.
In my search for the perfect 100% biodegradable bamboo toothbrush and after trying many samples from different companies I eventually found a brush with soft filaments but the head was too big and this was the case with most bamboo toothbrushes.
With a lot of to and fro and testing and trying the brushes eventually I got what I wanted a small head, soft bristles and a round handle, for easier grip, it is nearly perfect.
Thinking about the environment a bamboo toothbrush is the better choice but I couldn’t source one that was 100% biodegradable. The filaments are nylon and there are metal staples (which were in all the brushes we sampled) holding in each bunch of filaments so I recommend pulling out the bristles and recycling appropriately. The handle is 100% biodegradable as is the packaging.
You don’t have to scrub your teeth to remove dental plaque or biofilm as it’s now known is easily removed from the teeth and gums with a soft toothbrush preventing damage to your gums.

Toothbrushing
 
 
It is recommended that we spend at least 2 minutes, twice a day.
 
 
Using a pea sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
 
 
I recommend a small headed toothbrush with soft filaments.
 
 
Use small circular motions slowly and gently along the gum line brushing both the teeth and gums.
 
 
Every part of every tooth must be brushed to remove all the biofilm (plaque).
 
 
Spit don’t rinse.
